Bright, dark red. Reticent aromas of dark raspberry and spices. Juicy, lively and a bit clenched, with raspberry and floral notes along with a strong spicy oak element. Finishes with a note of truffle and dusty wood tannins. I'd give this young wine a couple years in bottle to absorb some of its oak. This village wine was aged in 40% new wood; Mortet cut the percentage to 25% in 2012.

The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Crushed flowers, spices, mint and red berries meld together in a silky, layered Gevrey graced with texture. The supple, layered finish is particularly of note. Sweet floral overtones reappear on the weightless finish.

The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a fragrant, very pure and delineated bouquet with lifted Morello and wild-strawberry scents, the new oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, rounded on the entry with crisp acidity and quite a solid, insistent finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. This deserves two or three years in bottle. Drink 2015-2024. Gentle and quite rich – but overpriced. Just a bit stringy on the finish with the oomph sucked out of the fruit.  (JR)
