(Grivot's vines are adjacent to the En Orveaux climat of Echézeaux; a blend of 85-, 45- and 40-year-old vines): Bright medium red. Musky aromas of crushed raspberry and mint are accented by a note of white pepper. Lovely lift and subtle saline complexity to the flavors of cherry fruit and skin, with subtle notes of flowers, minerals, spices and herbs energizing and sharpening the middle palate. Less pliant and more vertical than the Vosne-Romanée Bossière presented before it. Finishes with terrific vibrancy and surprising length. Very distinctive wine with a firm spine for mid-term aging.

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau has an airy bouquet with lilting red cherry and blueberry aromas that gently unfold. The palate is supple and lithe in the mouth, the tannins exerting a gentle grip with a slight attenuation at the moment. That should be filled out by a touch of new oak by the time of bottling. This just swerves toward darker fruit on the finish and completes a fine Combe d'Orveau, though I think that the 2012 has more pedigree.
