Score 90/100 · Drink 2024-2028, Neal Martin, Feb 2024

The 1982 Les Carmes Haut-Brion has a light nose that does lack some fruit. A light swimming pool scent intermixes with rustic red fruit, with a touch of nougat in the background. The palate is, again, relatively light with rustic tannins, initially a bit lean, yet it does gain depth with aeration in the glass, developing touches of black plum on the finish. Underlying this 1982 is commendable balance, a Les Carmes that creeps up on you and steals your affections. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the Icons of Bordeaux dinner at Legacy Records in New York.
