The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino greatly benefits from a few hours of aeration. As the wine opens, it finds steady footing thanks to its aromas of dried cherry, cassis, spice and grilled herb. In the mouth, it delivers a strong point of youthful tannins. This Brunello is a bit sharp and thorny in places. It will soften with time, but it might never fully shake that astringency. The mouthfeel is compressed and very streamlined. Ultimately, this expression only partially offers the pleasure you seek in Brunello.

Concentrated ruby with orange tinges. A little farmyardy/sweaty and sweet on the nose and sweet and a little numb on the palate. Seems a little old fashioned, with stalky tannins on the finish. Hard work. (WS)
