Score 93-95/100 · William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2024

Regularly one of the standouts of the domaine range, the 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, smoke, spices and espresso roast. Full-bodied, broad and layered, with a rich core of fruit, powdery tannins and succulent acids, it concludes with a pure and expansive finish.

Medium deep colour, with dark flowers on the nose. Coming in the midst of various spectacular grands crus, I find that the Echezeaux has taken the sunshine to a slightly brutal degree, as reflected by maximum ripeness of the fruit along with some tannins that may have been blocked from maturing fully. The yield was lower which is not always the best thing in hot dry years. It is still a sound wine but has missed out on the more delightful side of 2022. Tasted: October 2023.

The Famille Gagey bottling of Échezeaux was already sold out and therefore not shown at this tasting. Cask sample. Bright crimson. Pale rim. Real depth of aroma with some slightly farmyard(!) notes. And then such pretty, sweet fruit on the palate! An intensity not seen in any reds up to now in this tasting of Jadot’s 2022s. Smooth and seductive with real firepower. (JR)
