Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. Gotta fess up that the 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St Jacques from Pierre Duroché was easy to spot in the line-up - maybe because I just loved it so much. Here, it has an open, generous, pure bouquet with red berry fruit, raspberry and strawberry, fine delineation and poise, understated at first but growing in stature. The palate is feminine, pure and sensual with fine tannin, wonderful poise and superb tension all the way through to the finish. What a beautiful wine - pure unadulterated pinoté!

Light cherry red. Classically delicate dark-red fruit. Lovely finesse, the tannins almost silky even now and with fresh persistence. Elegant as well as juicy. (JH)
The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut-Saint-Jacques is endowed with lovely depth. Here the flavors are round, layered and beautifully expressive. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke and new leather all flesh out in a resonant Gevrey with plenty of potential to develop nicely in bottle.
Scented but a bit angular. Correct but lacks a bit of flesh. (JR)
