Tasting notes
Just at the beginning of its first plateau of maturity, the 2008 Barolo Riserva Monvigliero is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Sweet tobacco, licorice, menthol, dried herbs and leather all add nuance. This is a dark, somber Monvigliero that shows the darker side of Verduno's most famous vineyard site.

Deep lacklustre ruby with narrow orange rim. Seems a little stewed or perhaps it is just quick progress. I cannot discover (yet) a lot of complexity behind the ripe fruit, although it is solidly built. (WS)
Verduno. Pale ruby. Rich, somehow velvety nose. Very neat structure with fruit spreading across the palate and very dry on the end. Crisp and confident. (JR)
