Tasting notes
Dark and brooding, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva reveals rich notes of plum and cherry sauce, accented by autumnal spice and a hint of citrus. This is surprisingly lifted and sleek, with an intense core of tart red fruit and hints of tangerine, all kept in constant motion by stimulating acidity. Finely-etched tannins tug at the palate as the 2013 Riserva finishes long and still relatively youthful in feel, leaving a mineral tinge and rosy inner florals that linger on and on. This can be enjoyed now, but waiting is highly recommended.

The 2013 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva is developing beautifully and has a complex bouquet that continues to shift in the glass. It pours a rich ruby with a garnet tinge and has aromas of spice box, leather, red cherry, wild berries, incense, and dried rose petals. It offers medium to full body along with ripe tannins that begin to feel seamless with its fresh acidity and gorgeous length and purity. It is highly expressive and taps into both sheer pleasure and intellectual senses alike. Drink 2023-2043.
Deep, rich and sensual, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva wafts up with notes of plum sauce, crushed cherries, cinnamon and clove, all lifted by sweet florals. It caresses the palate with a perfumed display of spicy red fruits, even as its velvety textures communicate a pure sense of elegance. The word “seamless” comes to mind, as hints of citrus and minerals linger incredibly long, helping to balance the fine tannic structure. The 2013 is on a beautiful trajectory toward maturity.
This is a terrific wine that performs with grace, elegance and lengthy endurance. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva stands out in my mind as one of the most enjoyable riservas I have tasted from this classic vintage. The aromas are balanced and neatly tucked in. The effect it seamless and smooth with a virtual continuum of wild berry, rose, spice and autumnal aromas. Nothing is out of place and the wine feels glossy and polished in terms of mouthfeel. The tannins are firm but expertly integrated, giving this wine a prolonged future drinking window. Some 3,026 bottles, 120 magnums and ten double magnums were made.
