The 2017 Bourgogne Blanc Les Grandes Corvées is showing beautifully from bottle, unfurling with notes of pear, honeycomb, white flowers and nutmeg that are framed by a deft touch of reduction. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, this is a serious, concentrated Bourgogne that concludes with a saline finish.

The maiden 2017 Bourgogne Les Grand Corvées comes from a métayage of 30-year of vines that Sébastien Caillat told me needs a lot of work in the vineyard, though the soils is easier to work than he anticipated. It has a light apple blossom bouquet, very airy with touches of chalk. The palate is fresh on the entry with a crisp line of acidity, quite pointed and not powerful, but certainly full of tension. Not bad for a debut but I think there is better to come.
