Tasting notes
The 2020 Vieux Maillet has turned out nicely, offering up aromas of minty cherries and blackberries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy palate framed by sweet, powdery tannins. This is a gourmand Pomerol that will show well young.

The 2020 Château Vieux Maillet has closed down slightly since I tasted it from barrel, but it's still a rich, sexy wine with tons to love. Bright red and blue fruits, loads of floral nuances, and some spicy oak all define this beauty, and it's medium to full-bodied, with the vintage's pure, elegant profile, good mid-palate concentration, and fine tannins. Give bottles 3-5 years and enjoy over the following decade.
The 2020 Vieux Maillet, which partially uses amphora during the élevage, has a light and airy bouquet with black cherries and bilberry fruit, elegant if just missing a little presence. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, quite austere in context of the vintage with a slight bitterness on the finish.
The 2020 Vieux Maillet is pretty, floral and savory. There's a good bit of power, too, but today it is in the background. The 2020 is rich but fine.
