Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Smells rich, dark and chocolatey. More leafy than I expected on the palate but scented too with that leafy dark fruit. Extremely fine tannins should make this relatively approachable. Long, leafy finish. (JH)

The 2020 Clos des Jacobins has a fresh, blackberry- and wild strawberry-scented nose, with potpourri and violet scents that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and a focused, gentle grip. A dash of white pepper and clove linger toward the finish. The elegance comes through with aeration. This promises to be a fine Saint-Émilion that will age with style. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

Full bottle 1,199 g. Dark-berried fruit on the nose heralding a decidedly elegant wine. Already beautifully integrated, despite its youth. The fruit is ripe, the tannins are ripe, the acidity is ripe. Layers of spices, liquorice and cool, menthol herbs. Terribly young but this has a great future ahead of it. (TC)

Spiced dark cherries, iron, tobacco, and floral notes all define the 2020 Clos Des Jacobins, a medium to full-bodied, pure, polished, and beautifully balanced 2020 with lots of character. The tannins are nicely polished and integrated, and it has plenty of mid-palate depth as well as outstanding length. While it's unquestionably drinking nicely today, it's going to benefit from just a few years of bottle age and keep for 10-15 years.
