South-facing and sheltered from the wind, Santenots is a warm site and in 2022 Jadot’s example is gorgeous – lush with bright cherry and raspberry fruit. Tart and fresh, the fine-boned tannins framing the generous fruit profile with their chalky grip.

The 2022 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru is missing some delineation on the nose compared to its peers at the moment. There's plenty of fruit, but I'd like to see more terroir expression and clarity. The palate is well-balanced, with a supple entry and gentle grip. It is quite a weighty and dense Volnay, almost Pommard-like towards the finish. It may meliorate in cask, though I'd like to see more breeding.

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
