Tasting notes
Grown on red soil on hard limestone, planted partly in 1985 and mostly in 1995 at 14,000 vines per hectare. There’s a smoky touch to this, reminding me of my childhood overheated Scalextric set. This apart, the Clos du Meix offers linear intensity, fresh apple, a slight bitterness behind, then kicks on to a concentrated finish.

The 2022 Saint Aubin Clos de Meix ler Cru comes from hard limestone soils. It has hints of lemon rind, wet stone and flint on the correct and quite penetrating nose. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine bead of acidity, but it eases off too soon on the finish, which feels conservative compared to others. Maybe it has a trick up its sleeve? It's a bit outpaced in the current lineup.
