Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Nov 2023

This vineyard is just opposite Mazis-Chambertin. Heresztyn-Mazzini’s vines are around 40 years old, and they used 50% whole-bunch on the cuvée in 2022. It’s an intense wine with sweet spice and rich blueberry coulis and cassis. There’s a fresher profile to the palate, the density of fruit complemented by an underlying earthiness and crushed-rock minerality, with super-fine tannins that melt into the fruit.

A fresh and markedly ripe nose features plenty of floral and earth elements on the liqueur-like dark cherry aromas that are also trimmed in a background touch of wood. The succulent, caressing and round medium weight flavors are relatively refined while offering solid length and fine depth on the youthfully austere finish. This is really quite pretty and firm enough to repay a decade plus of keeping.

Cask sample. Light-to-mid crimson. Sweeter-fruited than Les Songes, with a note of wild strawberries. Tangy, fresh, dry and light-bodied but in balance. Gently chewy tannins on the finish. (JH)

Mid crimson. Quite an elegant nose, floral rose notes, 50% whole bunch vinification, as well as some graceful red fruit. The oak is a little present at the finish but that will integrate and the fruit is very classy, finesse and some tensile strength, but nothing too powerful. A good juicy aftertaste.
