Drink 2025-2042, FINE+RARE, Nov 2023

Bouchard’s Genevrières comes from two separate plots. The first is on the steeper slope with lots of exposure, ripening earlier, bringing generosity, dried fruit flavours and nutty notes to the palate. The other plot is on very rocky soil and at a higher altitude, adding zesty citrus notes as well as a textural elegance, which offsets the natural richness of the site. The 2022 is honeyed, the richest of the three Meursault Premiers Crus that we taste, yet with a lovely brightness too. There’s real weight and dry extract to the palate here, with a breadth of peachy fruit, and a mouth-watering, nutty, almost toffee finish.

Cask sample. Stone dust and fresh citrus but also creamy with the clementine note I associate with classic Meursault. Moderate fruit weight, rounded, quite soft on the finish until the acidity kicks in at the very end, adding length. (JH)

Bouchard is replanting a big block in this site, so the 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières is a smaller cuvée than usual. Unfurling in the glass with notes of pear, white flowers, fresh hazelnuts and ripe citrus, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and vibrant, with a fleshy core of fruit that exhibits good concentration and cut.
