Score 88/100 · Drink 2016-2022, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2016

The 2012 Barolo Paiagallo is pretty, but also lacking a bit of mid-palate depth, as many wines are in this vintage. Dried flowers, dried cherries, cinnamon, mint and worn-in leather, along with the wine's mid-weight structure, all suggest the 2012 is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. All things considered, this is a fairly innocuous, mid-weight Barolo from Mirafiore.

Barolo. Maturing mid ruby with a bright orange rim. Hints of dried fruit on the nose, and not entirely focused. A bit grubby, but perhaps it is just reductive. Very closed palate which is a little harsh, but there is some fragrant fruit building up on the finish. (WS)
