Tasting notes
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 18 months in barrique. Very deep crimson. Then extremely ripe and sweet but with good structure and no shortage of intensity! Perhaps just a tad too sweet? But impressively long. (JR)

The estate's 2014 Guado de' Gemoli is terrific, especially within the context of the year. Gracious and medium in body, the 2014 offers a compelling melange of varietal Cabernet Sauvignon inflections. Hints of espresso, dark cherry, leather and mint shape the expressive finish.
This wine has always been one of my personal darlings from the Bolgheri appellation. The 2014 Bolgheri Superiore Guado de' Gemoli is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (80%) with a smaller part Merlot (20%). As might be expected, this is a weaker vintage. The bouquet shows good intensity and deep layers of dark fruit. But you also get spicy tones of black olive, grilled herb and savory forest bramble. The wine feels slightly unripe and its various elements do not completely align. But you do feel the 15% alcohol at the end.
