The 2016 Bourgogne Grands Chaillots is showing very well, offering up a rich bouquet of berry fruit, dark chocolate and toasty new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with succulent acids and powdery structuring tannins, concluding with a sapid and delicately oak-inflected finish. This is an ambitious but successful Bourgogne that should evolve for a decade or more in the cellar.

Funky rich nose. Some refined oak influence. Difficult to separate the wine from the (burly) man. Rich with a memorable signature. Should please all but the most classical purist. (JR)
(this wine does not include fruit from Marsannay or Beaune, but Liger-Belair was able to include grapes from low-altitude sites in the Chambolle-Musigny; 20% new oak; totally destemmed; no punchdowns during fermentation): Healthy dark red. Ripe scents of black cherry and leather. Fat, sweet and pliant, conveying a slightly high-toned quality (from low sulfur?) to its mouthfilling flavors of dark cherry and raspberry. This will deliver early pleasure.
