Tasting notes
The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio is one of the best vintages in recent memory. After a warm 2012 and 2011, 2013 witnessed a return to more favorable conditions for Sangiovese. There’s a feeling of breadth and dynamic energy that distinguishes it in this complete vertical. Dark cherry, menthol, licorice, dried herbs, tobacco and incense fill out the layers effortlessly. Virile and imposing, the 2013 is towering in its sheer stature. What a wine!

The beautiful 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio is drinking very nicely at the moment. This cool vintage wine opens to a darkly saturated appearance with pretty tones of dark berry, cassis, tar, smoke and crushed river stone. Slightly evolved aromas of licorice and road paving add a whole new level of dimension and complexity. The wine is based on 95% Sangiovese with 5% Colorino, aged in tonneaux. Some 19,000 bottles were made.
