The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées is showing very nicely, exhibiting aromas of pear, orange oil, fresh pastry and toasted nuts, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate that's ripe but precise.
The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Embazees 1er Cru has a gentle, lilting bouquet with scents of white peach, apricot and citrus, gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is lively thanks to a welcome seam of sour lemon that drives this Chassagne along, and offers wonderful salinity toward the finish. Excellent.
Cask sample. A hint of spice but mostly fresh grapefruit and lemon. On the palate, this is the first white (among the 2018 Drouhins) with a real acid line that carries you through. Not much malo here? The acidity slightly disjointed at the moment but should come round to become a longer-lived and complex wine. All in embryo but has impressive intensity. (JH)
