The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a heavily reduced bouquet that makes it difficult to read. But there appears to be plenty of fruit, possibly with some whole bunch addition. The palate is medium-bodied with gritty tannins, structured and exhibiting blacker fruit than its peers. Grainy texture, slightly brittle perhaps, yet long on the finish. A bit of a grumpy old sod at the moment, give it 4-5 years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Pretty dark crimson. Concentrated and a bit brutal. Not a refined style but this is a pretty good price for a Grand Cru. Lots of tannin rather masks the fruit. (JR)
