Tasting notes
A nose-wrinkling mélange of musky iris and narcissus teams up with scents of ripe white peach, passion fruit and wet stone. The feel is glossy and expansive but not at all heavy, and the lusciously lingering finish offers fine focus and transparency to stony, smoky, alkaline and otherwise basalt-typical accents.

The 2018 Riesling GG Forster Kirchenstück "VDP. Grosse Lage" is deep, pure, intense and concentrated on the flinty-scented nose. Tight and concentrated on the palate, this is an elegant, refined and refreshing Riesling with a persistently salty finish with stimulating grip. Impressive yet still shy. Tasted in Deidesheim in December 2019.
The fragrance of the Kirchenstück pulls out all the fruity stops, as it combines exotic notes of maracuja and citrus fruit with peach and apricot from more local origins. On the palate the fruit shines more with juice and zest than opulence and is well supported by lively acidity. Subtle salty, flinty and spicy accents add sophistication. Also a little drier in its overall expression. (MS)
