Tasting notes
The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges du Dessus 1er Cru has a clean and fresh bouquet with perfumed Morello and strawberry shortcake aromas, all well defined. Exuberant is the word that comes to mind. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that frame a sweet, confit-like core of red fruit with hints of marmalade and blood orange towards the seductive finish. Very fine, but a Vosne-Romanée I might broach in the more immediate term. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

The 2016 Vosne Romanee Rouge du Dessus comes from the sunniest climat according to Cécile but in this vintage turned out to be the freshest. It is matured in 50% new oak although from a different source than the Beaux Monts. It has a very aromatic bouquet with blackcurrant and raspberry fruit with a touch of morels developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a structured, slightly foursquare opening redeemed by a fine thread of acidity. It tapers slightly toward the finish but it maintains plenty of freshness and vitality.
