Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Sep 2019

The 2011 vintage was scorching hot and dry, producing even more powerful and opulent wines from Valpolicella. The 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Morar is a bold wine for sure, with dark fruit flavors all painted in very thick brush strokes. The bouquet peels back to reveal inky black fruit with spicy smoke, tar and barbecue rub. The blend is 65% Corvina, 10% Rondinella and 25% Corvinone, and the wine does 95 days of appassimento. A shorter dehydration time such as this is well suited to the hot conditions of the growing season, but you still get a bold 17% alcohol content here nonetheless. Some 12,000 bottles were made.
