Tasting notes
The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte displays a bright and vibrant ruby color in the glass. It entices the senses with a beguiling bouquet mixing ripe strawberries, plums, tomato leaf, minty herbs, hints of saw dust and flowery undergrowth. This is a model of purity. Silky textures usher in brilliant red fruits, laced with pretty inner florals and salty minerals. Bright acidity maintains amazing freshness, even as a tug of youthful tannin still resides. The Ugolforte becomes quite savory through the finale, showing red currants, inner rose tones and hints of leather. This feminine and lifted Brunello is in a beautiful place today, and it should provide many more years of pleasure. This bottle was tasted over the course of two days and held up beautifully. Sampled from the winery cellar.

San Giorgio's 2001 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte is simply gorgeous. It exhibits superb depth and fleshiness in its red cherries, minerals, flowers and menthol. Constantly changing in the glass, this Brunello reveals notable richness and expansiveness on the palate in a beautiful, utterly convincing expression of Sangiovese from Montalcino.
