Score 89/100 · Drink 2022-2026, Eric Guido, Vinous, Jun 2021

The 2018 Etna Rosso Archinieri is a more understated and floral expression, as wild herbs, dried roses and hints of young strawberry lift from the glass. It’s silky in texture and more flamboyant than expected, with ripe red and blue berries cascading across a mineral-infused core of juicy acidity. Fine tannins linger long through the finale, drying the senses, and a note of tart cherry tapers off too quickly for my tastes. Some cellaring may reveal further depths, but I find that the 2018 lacks the balance for long-term development.
