2017 Vallagarina

The 2017 Rosso Villa Gresti di San Leonardo wafts up with a woodsy character, blending crushed violets, balsam and lavender with wild berries and crushed chalk. Its textures are like pure silk, ushering in a dense wave of ripe red and blue fruits offset by brisk acidity as savory herbal tones form toward the close. This leaves wild blueberries and citrus hints lingering while finishing only lightly structured and surprisingly fresh. The Villa Gresti is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Carménère. Of note is that production was drastically reduced by over 50% due to the warm and dry conditions of the vintage.
