Opaque ruby. Smoke-accented aromas of fresh dark berries, candied licorice, spicecake and black pepper develop an exotic potpourri nuance in the glass. Pliant cherry, black raspberry and floral pastille flavors show outstanding clarity and energetic lift thanks to a spine of juicy acidity. Finishes extremely long and sappy, with repeating spiciness and smooth tannins lending subtle grip.

Villard's 2016 Côte Rôtie La Brocarde comes from a great terroir in the northern part of the appellation and sports a deep purple color as well as notes of blueberries, ground pepper, crushed violets, and olive tapenade. It's a ripe, sexy, lifted beauty that that has terrific mid-palate density, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.

The 2016 Cote Rotie la Brocarde is a dark, savory mix of espresso, black olives and roasted meat. Medium-bodied, it offers surprising freshness considering the flavor profile, with silky tannins and a long, savory finish.
