(40% new oak; bottled last week; from vines planted on SO4 rootstock, which winemaker Pierre Vincent described as "not great material"): Palish medium red. High-toned, fruit-driven aromas of raspberry liqueur and pepper. Not opulent but shows good intensity to its flavors of red berries, pepper and spices. Seems a bit shut down by the recent bottling. Finishes a touch medicinal but the tannins are fine-grained.

The 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru les Corvées Pagets was showing just a touch of reduction when I tasted it from barrel, though there seemed to be sufficient fruit concentration underneath. The palate is medium-bodied, the new oak a little more conspicuous here and coating the finish in a thin film of dark chocolate. That should be absorbed by the time of bottling, but I feel this is a slightly more modern style of Nuits Saint Georges (perhaps because it was completely destemmed?). I would like to see more terroir come through by the time of bottling.
About the producer
Based south of Nuits-Saint-Georges in Prémeaux-Prissey, Domaine de la Vougeraie was created in 1999, grouping all of Jean-Claude Boisset’s holdings under one name. The property has a total 40 hectares of vines, with extensive holdings in Vougeot as well as plots in six Grands Crus.
