Tasting notes
The 2013 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from 17 parcels around the Brochon area that total 7 hectares. It has an intense bouquet with macerated small black cherries, crème de cassis and blueberries interlaced with vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and plenty of mineralité towards the finish. There is dense layer of black fruit here that needs to mellow, so afford this 4 or 5 years in the cellar. It's a bit robust, a bit blocky at the moment and like the Gevrey Evocelles '13, it needs to forage more finesse.

Sweet, plush, cherry-compote nose. Lots of toasty wood, marked acid. Flashy but not quite enough power in the middle to knit it together. (AH)
