Score 93/100 · Drink 2003-2012, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2000

The 1998 Gewurztraminer Vendange Tardive reveals botrytized yellow plum aromas. This sweet peach, tangy mango, stone, mirabelle, and pineapple-flavored wine is opulent, oily-textured, and medium to full-bodied. Even though it is thick and lush, it somehow retains admirable freshness and zestiness. Projected maturity: 2003-2012. Perfumed aromas of smoke and spice. Sweet and rich, and moderately thick, but not at all cloying or heavy. Here the 14% alcohol provides the balance as the level of acidity is low. Strong, spicy back end. A rather stylish wine, rather like the 1990 version of this wine.
