Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a pretty, peachy nose with white flower and brioche-like aromas. It is nicely defined but not powerful. The palate is balanced with a more honeyed texture than its peers, intimating just a little botrytis, and it seems to fade towards the finish. I would be inclined to drink this sooner rather than later. Tasted May 2016.

Mealy and nutty on the nose. Fatally flat on the palate, with a harsh phenolic character that is not balanced by enough freshness. How can you do this to a grand cru, even in a tough vintage? (JH)
