The 2007 Clos de Sarpe has an attractive bouquet: rather pure with cough candy-infused red fruit, liquorice and blood orange. It's nicely defined if just missing some Saint-Émilion typicité. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet ripe tannins; the cough candy/star anis notes infuse the spicy red fruit. There are white pepper hints with moderate weight on the smudged finish that cuts away a little swiftly.

From a vintage that seems to be drinking at point today, the 2007 Château Clos de Sarpe has a more medium-bodied, rounded, charming style that reminds me of the 1978 with its open-knit, sexy texture. It's not a massive wine by any means yet has captivating aromas of white truffle, raspberries, red currants, spring flowers, and cedary herbs that develops beautifully with time in the glass. Drink this elegant, complex 2007 any time over the coming two decades or more.

The deep garnet colored 2007 Clos de Sarpe is profoundly scented of preserved plums, blackcurrant cordial and blueberry compote with touches of lilacs, bay leaves and truffles. Medium-bodied with a firm frame of grainy tannins and a great core of slowly evolving, earthy fruit, it finishes long with a refreshing herbal lift.
