The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Petits-Monts 1er Cru is a wine that I never tasted out of barrel with Amélie Berthaut. It has more reduction on the nose and more of a marine influence here, turning to wilted rose petals with time - quite mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, a mixture of red and black fruit laced with white pepper and Italian herbs. It's nicely composed and harmonious towards the finish and is a tad more tannic than its peers, yet it is still an enjoyable wine that is probably in the for the long haul. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Petits Monts is also quite tightly wound, unfurling in the glass with notes of cherries and mulberries mingled with dark chocolate, spices and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with racy acids and a structured, rather tensile wine, it represents quite a contrast with the suppler, more ethereal 2021.
Blackish crimson. Very chewy without quite enough subtle fruit and pace in the middle. Somewhat heavily extracted. By no means a charmer! Quite a contrast to the Fixin Les Arvelets… (JR)
