Tasting notes
Altesino has always been a reference point for Brunello di Montalcino. This superb 1985 Vigna Altesino has enough opulence and richness to be consumed now, although it would be a shame not to lay away a few bottles for drinking around the turn of the century. Dark ruby/garnet, with a huge, smoked, black fruit, cocoa, and herb-scented bouquet, this impressively endowed, full-bodied wine is highly extracted, but has slightly lower acidity than many other 1985 Brunellos. No doubt the wine was made from super-ripe grapes. Long, opulent, and dramatic, this is a beautifully made Brunello for drinking over the next 15 or more years. Importer: Winebow, Inc., HoHoKus, NJ.
