Score 88/100 · Drink 2004-2014, Robert Parker, Oct 2001
This wine is closed at present, so it ultimately may merit an even higher rating. The 1997 Barolo La Serra exhibits a dark ruby color in addition to Barolo's tell-tale bouquet of rose petals, black cherries, and balsam wood with hints of underbrush/tobacco. There is good ripeness, medium to full body, moderately high tannin, and a firm but traditionally-styled finish with no evidence of new oak. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2014. Importer: Neil Empson, Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900
