Score 92-94/100 · William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2021

The 2019 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru (négoce) opens with aromas of rose petals, plums, red berries, raw cocoa and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and charming, it's open-knit and giving, with melting tannins, lively acids and a saline finish. As I've written before, the Mercier family's parcel of Griotte-Chambertin is leased to both Ponsot and Leclerc in metayage, some of which the Merciers take in grapes and sell to Laurent Lignier.

The 2019 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru comes from purchased fruit. It has a very well defined bouquet with lifted red berry fruit, rose petals, hints of liquorice and orange blossom. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a harmonious and quite persistent finish.
