Score 91/100 · Drink 2027-2042, Neal Martin, Dec 2023

The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a heavy-handed use of oak on the nose, with hickory and meat juice aromas that obscure the terroir expression. It does ebb away with aeration, so hopefully that bodes well for the future. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a little dry because of the oak, and savory toward a finish that doesn't really tempt me back for another sip. What a shame, as there is a good wine beneath the surface if the oak maturation had been more prudent. Difficult to judge. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
