FINE+RARE

Ardbeg's latest Traigh Bhan release was matured in a higher proportion of Oloroso casks, producing a rich yet herbal single malt. The highly collectable series takes its name – pronounced “Tri-van” – from the eponymous white beach near Port Ellen, known as "the singing sands" for the majestic sound it makes. Each small-batch, aged single malt in the series is subtly different from the last – and is guaranteed to be in high demand.

Plenty of peat up front, along with whiffs of vanilla, citrus, and tobacco before the maritime notes kick in—dried seaweed, sea salt, and brine. Vanilla and lemon tart on the palate, with light soapiness. It’s delicate, sweet, creamy, and dessert-like. The finish is flavorful with Creamsicle and more vanilla, and the peat reappears. Very balanced overall—not a peat bomb—with subtle sweetness and depth, and peat in a strong but supporting role.
