2022 Meursault Les Perrieres

Tasting notes
Alvina Pernot’s Perrières bottling is slightly less exuberant than Porusots, but feels a bit more aristocratic. The nose is very elegant and delicate, with a more subtle palate, with dainty florals rather than fruit dominating. It’s pure, refined and with beautiful balance, driving to a long, lifted finish with a saline tang. A step above the other Meursault, this is flirting with Grand Cru quality. One barrel made, with no new oak – allowing the site to shine. The 2022 labels are one-offs, including a dedication to their son Pâris, who was born on 1st January 2022.

A cool and decidedly restrained nose is comprised by prominent notes of mineral reduction, Granny Smith apple, essence of pear and a wide range of citrus nuances. Once again the intense medium weight flavors possess a highly attractive, even sophisticated, texture while displaying a driving stoniness on the balanced, youthfully austere and impressively long bone-dry finale. Patience will absolutely be necessary as this is promising but very tightly wound. Drink 2032+
Although the Perrières from Alvina Pernot takes some time to open, it is a massive wine: nectarine, apricot, and quince aromas open on the palate with time. There are nuances of beeswax and marzipan as the wine opens up. This wine is the most substantial of the Meursaults in the cellar. However, there is a pH of just 3.19, bringing remarkable balance. The wine is delicious, but unfortunately, there is only a single barrel, produced from grapes from Perrières Dessous — worth seeking out.
The 2022 Meursault Perrières 1er Cru, which comes from purchased must, articulates the mineralité/crushed stone trope expected from this vineyard: linear and detailed, pleasingly strict with a hint of chamomile in the background. The palate is beautifully balanced with a touch of orange pith on the entry entwined with melon and even a hint of blackcurrant. Long and tender on the finish, this is a supremely well-crafted Perrières.
