Tasting notes
Alvina Pernot made a mere 80 litres of this wine in 2021; fortunately there is the equivalent of 3.5 barrels in 2022 (aged in a combination of glass and oak). The site is a clos within Champ Canet, and a Pernot family monopole (both Paul and Alvina). Sitting at higher altitude (a similar height to the top of Chevalier-Montrachet), it is north of Folatières. A little reductive at this stage, the palate nevertheless shows the wine’s potential, with a delicacy and acidity that balances its richness and depth. There’s an appealing lift to the finish too. The 2022 labels are one-offs, including a dedication to their son Pâris, who was born on 1st January 2022.

Here too the nose is cool and restrained and requires aggressive swirling to coax the aromas of green apple, just sliced citrus, carnation and an interesting hint of crushed star anise. The caressing and delicious flavors possess a bit more volume if less evident minerality n the equally bone-dry, balanced and classy finale. This is lovely and particularly harmonious, indeed the word Zen comes to mind. Drink 2032+
This interesting terroir is part of Champ Canet; the two proprietors are the Pernot family and Jacques Carillon. The old vines here (50 years on average) have delivered a wine of marvellous complexity with a bright, citrus-inflected fruit character; hints of flowers and smoke give complexity. This wine is delicate and elegant yet does not lack depth or length; it should open well with several years in the bottle and will continue to drink well for a further 20.
Only two people own vines in this vineyard, although Jacques Carillon labels his as Champs Canet. The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Clos de La Jacquelotte 1er Cru has a slightly candied bouquet with orange blossom, grapefruit and touches of peach skin, quite generous whilst retaining satisfying freshness. The palate is very well-balanced with a smooth texture. It’s one of the most concentrated and pithier cuvées from Pernot, with a very persistent finish. Definitely worth seeking out.
About the producer

Alvina Pernot is one of the most exciting producers of white Burgundy today. Based in Puligny-Montrachet with some incredible vineyards, this is a name to watch – creating taut and mineral styles of white Burgundy.
