Tasting notes
Coming from a plot situated just below Chevalier-Montrachet, this is noticeably one of the noblest Premiers Crus, alongside Les Pucelles. On the nose, it offers a riper and richer profile, yet the palate retains the year’s beautiful balance. Although this is typically a rounder expression of Puligny-Montrachet, it’s also beautifully delicate and will need a few years to deliver on its full potential. Three barrels were made, with around two-thirds new oak used (in a larger, 500-litre tonneau rather than barrique). The 2022 labels are one-offs, including a dedication to their son Pâris, who was born on 1st January 2022.

A highly complex if again quite reticent nose also requires aggressive swirling to reveal the aromas of spiced apple, exotic tea, wet stone and a plenitude of floral wisps. Once again the mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is positively gorgeous with even more minerality adding a sense of lift to the clean, dry, chiseled and crisp finale. This is excellent and very much constructed to repay a decade plus of aging. Classy juice. Drink 2032+
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru comes from Alvina Pernot's own parcel and contains a little more new oak than the other cuvées. This is not obvious on the mild-mannered nose, well-defined with citrus fruit, apple blossom and a touch of white peach. The palate is very well-balanced with a very effective reduction. It’s tensile and razor-sharp with a lovely twist of bitter lemon, imparting tension on the finish. Superb.
Pale in colour with a little bacon fat reduction. Otherwise, not so easy to pick out the nose. Very good tension, absolutely typical stony minerals here, and very persistent. Not yet fully showing but fine potential. Three barrels made.
