Tasting notes
FINE+RARE, Nov 2023

This was only bottled two months ago when we tasted it, so it’s still a little raw, yet you can already see the density of fruit and firm structure that lies behind – making for a surprisingly serious Langhe Nebbiolo. Ripe red berry fruit is offset by a chalky freshness and grip. Juicy and generous, yet with tannins that will allow this to evolve in bottle, it’s an excellent introduction to this benchmark producer.

The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo was bottled last September and a pours a deep, clear ruby color. Bright and lifted, with a lot of spice character, it offers notes of ripe raspberries, cinnamon, fresh mint, and pressed flowers, while the palate has an approachable and ripe feel that remains fresh. Made from all Barbaresco fruit, it’s ripe and has a good, plush texture, bright acidity, and a hint of warmth. This is a serious Langhe Nebbiolo with a lot of character to drink over the next 5-6 years. 10,000 cases were produced, which is about 25% of their production. As one of the most important and quality-minded co-operatives in the world, Produttori del Barbaresco is currently composed of 51 growers across Barbaresco. Founded in 1894 by Domizio Cavazza, the headmaster of the Royal Enological School of Alba, it was originally a collection of nine growers. Today the operations are managed by Aldo Vacca, who was formerly the assistant to Angelo Gaja for 15 years.

Here's a pretty little surprise from Produttori del Barbaresco. The 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is slender and streamlined in consistency, but it remains surprisingly focused throughout. It shows raisiny flavors of prune and dried fig. The effect is delineated and sharp. The wine is generous, and it offers a lot of bright energy as well, within the context of hot-vintage fruit. This is an ample release of 100,000 bottles.

Just bottled, the 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo is plump, juicy and very easy to like. The warm, dry year yielded a forward, supple Nebbiolo with lovely forward fruit, soft curves and tons of forward appeal.
