All Merlot brought up in a mix of new and used oak, the 2021 Château Clos De Boüard is a more medium-bodied, fresher, mid-weight wine from this team that's very much in the style of the vintage. Spicy red (and some black) fruits, sappy flowers, and some nicely integrated spicy wood notes all define the aromatics, and it's balanced, has soft tannins, brighter acidity than normal (which is understandable), and a good finish. This spicy, complex, charming Montagne will drink well for 8-10 years.

The 2021 Clos de Boüard has a light bouquet at first, gradually opening with its mixture of red and blueberry fruit, a subtle violet note emerging with time. The oak is well-integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine tannins and a judicious line of acidity. A sapid, tightly wound finish suggests it will benefit from three or four years in bottle. There’s good potential here.
The 2021 Clos de Boüard is laced with bright red fruit, flowers and mocha. Today, the Clos comes across as a bit compact and vegetal. It will be interesting to see what élevage brings. Regardless, the 2021 looks like a near term proposition.
Grilled tar and smoke notes are a little distracting on the opening, but there is juice and power in the black fruits, enjoyable.
