The 2013 Echézeaux Grand Cru has an attractive, if rustic, bouquet, slightly ferrous in style but decent depth, with leather and tobacco notes emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity, gentle grip with mulberry and light peppery notes toward the finish. It's a bit broad-shouldered if truth be told (not unlike Grivot's), but there is freshness and length in situ. Solid rather than spectacular.

The 2013 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a melange of red and black,mineral-driven fruit on the nose that is palpable despite a touch of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are deftly intermarried with the finely tuned acidity. I like the energy, the sense of animation in this Echézeaux that gently builds to a mocha-tinged finish. There is just a tingle of black pepper lingering on the aftertaste. Excellent.
Great combination of precision, energy and very ripe fruit. Dense and quite dramatic with a nervy edge. Still quite astringent but should certainly come right. Dry end. (JR)
