The 2020 vintage was hotter and drier than the excellent 2019, further reducing the low yields of this tiny, under-one-hectare site. The lofty heights of this special vineyard, however, were an advantage, and with a carefully timed, early and fast harvest, the team has created another brilliant expression of this mountain site. At first it seems brighter than the 2019, but reveals a more savoury, spicier and darker-fruited profile. Despite the black fruit, it retains a juicy, mineral spine – long, tight and mouth-watering with lifted florals and spice that linger on the tongue. Superb.

The 2020 Un Lugar en Los Andes Pinot Noir is one of two wines from vines at 1,700 meters in altitude in Estancia San Pablo planted in 2004 on deep and organic soils where they can dry farm. It fermented with 50% full clusters and indigenous yeasts in 500-liter oak barrels where the wine matured for around 10 months. It has good ripeness and seriousness, intense but subtle varietal aromas and flavors and a velvety mouthfeel and round tannins. 2018 was the first vintage of this wine, and in 2020, they produced only 600 bottles that were filled before the following vintage.
