Older hillside vines, fermented with ambient yeast and aged for 12 months in French oak. 625 cases produced. Mid ruby. Quite a funky nose with some mushrooms and some violet-scented sweet fruit. Quite a pretty wine with an attractive dry finish. Good acid balance. (JR)

The order is intact here once again. This complex, smouldering and broody pinot has plenty on offer and marries character-laden fruit with impressive structure. On the nose, there\'s a smoky thread with dark cherry, earth and plum, abundant spice and bracken too - lots to see. The palate brings impressive structure and weight, it flows with assertive dark cherry and spiced plum flavor. Tannins surge through the finish with almost menacing intent. This is quite a wine! Drink in 2016.

Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2012 Moutere Pinot Noir has around 25% new oak maturation and offers lovely earthy / loamy notes over a core of black raspberries and cranberries with hints of moss and fungi. Medium-bodied, it is packed with intense red berry and earth flavors supported by firm, fine tannins and a crisp acid frame, finishing long and mineral laced.

Quite dark for a Pinot. Light, medicinal, briary nose. Lots of acidity and light tannins and a bit severe. But good that it's not sweetened up, anyway... Appetising but for the moment a bit challenging. It stands out from the NZ crowd. Hold before drinking. (JR)
