Tasting notes
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Baudes 1er Cru has a perfumed, floral bouquet of red cherry, strawberry, vanilla and rose petal aromas that gently unfurl in the glass. The palate is well balanced, with sappy red berry fruit and a fine bead of acidity, and demonstrates a little more density than the other crus, if not quite the same persistency at the moment. This is a fine Les Baudes, but it is jogging a couple of paces behind its siblings.

A more muscular, deeper-pitched expression of the commune, the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes offers up lovely aromas of red cherries, raw cocoa, espresso roast, grilled squab and forest floor. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a broad-shouldered chassis of fine but firm structuring tannins, beautiful purity of fruit and a long, penetrating finish. It's a stunning wine in the making, but patience will be required.
