(two-thirds new oak; 30% vendange entier ): Bright ruby-red. Very wild, very reduced aromas and flavors of dark berries, smoked meat and flint. Clearly dense and sweet but the reduction makes this wine hard to taste today. Mortet told me had to rack this wine three times. Finishes very long, with substantial dusty tannins and lingering notes of raspberry, game and chocolate. My score is an educated guess.

(two of the three barrels of this juice were new): Deep ruby-red, very dark for 2014. Sauvage aromas of blackberry, violet and game reminded me of Côte-Rôtie. Densely packed and sweet, displaying powerful material but coming across as a bit monolithic today in spite of its excellent acidity. This wine had been racked twice by the time of my visit and was still a bit reduced. In a distinctly powerful, very ripe style, this wine will need at least several years of cellaring to soften. Not a heavy wine but lacks the detail of Mortet's top Gevrey cuvées . Mortet gets this fruit through a metayage agreement with an investor; he does all the vineyard work. The vines are 50 years old but tired, according to Mortet, and the crop level here was barely 25 hectoliters per hectare. The parcel is located at the bottom of Mazis Haut, adjacent to Damoy's Clos de Bèze.
