Tasting notes
The 2020 Nas Dunas comes from vines on sandy soils over clay in the zone of Arra, where the soil retains the water and the plants have always a reservoir of water, even if it's deep down. The juice from pressing the destemmed grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts in a large oak barrel, where the wine later matured for 11 months. It has a more developed nose with some oxidative hints of nuts and dry hay and straw, less varietal and more complex, with elegance and finesse with iodine and balsamic hints. It has moderate alcohol, 12.5%, but full development of aromas and flavors, and it has high acidity but without an acid feeling. This is a different expression of Albariño. 900 bottles were filled from one 700-liter oak barrel. It was bottled in August 2021, and they keep the wine in bottle for a couple of years more.

Really intense and full of life. Like an essence of Rías Baixas. No casual sipper … (JR)
Nas Dunas is one of the most unique vineyards I have ever come across. It is located on a small hill within a dune system, where the bedrock is clayey schist covered with between one-half and two metres of beach sand. Here we find the vineyards of this Albariño, between 25 and 70 years old, with very deep roots that reach the schist that feeds them. Three fabulous producers share this special plot: Fulcro, Forjas del Salnés and, making just one small barrel, Raúl Pérez. Spontaneous fermentation in 700-litre French barrels, aged for 12 months in these and 2 more years in bottle. 800 bottles produced. Tasted blind. From grapes that ripen earlier, thanks to the heat that the sand absorbs and radiates at night, we find a wine that has been barrel-fermented but still maintains the aroma of wet stone and minerals on the nose. It is a rare treasure. A deep, direct, subtle marvel with energy and nerve well above average. Extremely inspiring and pure wine, with tons of minerality and great precision. (FC)
